Rose Knapp ~ BT Sickness Unto Either/Or

We have made lots of progress on the L and the G fronts,
but the B and the T’s still need a lot more loving.

Despite a few people named Bowie or Kardashian or Jenner,
there are still more people who hyde from saying

They do love both Kaitlyn’s and Bruce’s, or even more
taboo, that they were born in the wrong body,

Or that they feel they are in-between or outside of
being either just a Kaitlyn or Bruce. If we were

truly tolerant, transgender suicide attempts would not be 41%,
But it’s far easier praising their courage while still secretly

viewing them as freaks or unnatural or liars or mentally ill

Rose Knapp is a recent college graduate with degrees in philosophy and literature. She has an experimental novel forthcoming and various poetry publications in Commonline Journal, Blue Lake Review, Poetry Pacific Magazine, Indiana Voice Journal, Shot Glass Journal, Chicago Literati, and many others.
She currently divides her time between Brooklyn and Minneapolis.
