Linda Umans ~ ghazal for a deadline

ladybugs, stinkbugs vie for warm livingrooms in autumn’s twittering gold
purposeful actions preparing for sleep in the twilight of twittering gold

the hovering Monarch lights on a puddle each wing beat each flutter
during grueling migration turns the breeze to a glittering gold

squirrel skipping the wires in his haste to prepare for his future
hides nuts in the flower pots digs in the leaves as he is littering gold

Braeburns and Cortlands and Empires and Galas and Fujis and Romes
post-summer globes of the season the sweetest the tartest apple-frittering gold

this ghazalist hangs on through loud blasts of color because and despite what is now
what is past looking forward to life after winter to blistering, glistening, listening gold
