Joseph Farley – JUST SLEEP ON IT

sleep is needed,
the night calls.
the bed unmade
is necessary
as it is,
the summer heat
shall serve as sheets
and a bent arm
is as good
as a pillow.

tomorrow’s sun
shall wake me early
and the bright endeavors
of the morning
will pull me to my feet.

hours later I may claim
it was all a mistake,
that I should have stayed
in an unmade bed,
but let’s be brave
in the face of the rising sun,
and wear a smile through the day
like a loaded gun.
