Rosalie Morales Kearns ~ November Afternoon

I reach the woods, already late.
The shadows creep and writhe and step
by step they follow me without
my knowing why or how.

Wind scratches leaves on forest floor,
a mist takes shape along the path,
a trembling starts, its edges blur,
it whispers, Join us now.
