Marybeth Rua-Larsen BEAT

BEAT

Marybeth Rua-Larsen

The sway of wheat
In a fickle breeze
The hip-hop groove
Of a dance-floor tease

The twitching nose
Of a hungry mouse
The tabby’s tail
Before the pounce

The fleeing horse
On a just-mown field
The scratch of cries
When a jackdaw steals

The thud of rain
On soil that thirsts
Your bulging vein
Before it bursts

Marybeth Rua-Larsen lives on the south coast of Massachusetts and teaches ESL and basic skills courses at Bristol Community College.  Her poems, essays, flash fiction and reviews have appeared or are forthcoming in The Raintown Review, The Barefoot Muse, The Shit Creek Review, The Flea, Measure, Verse Wisconsin and Newport Review, among others.
