(after the painting by Salvador Dalí)

Follow butterflies
wherever they fly
new lands
out of old habits
migration leads
past pitiless crags

instinct denied
a destination
without a thought
follow it

follow them
wherever they fly
old wings
over new domains

even to their silent death
by the knowing sun.

Neil Ellman: I live and write in New Jersey. My poems, many of which are ekphrastic and based on works of modern, surreal art, appear in numerous print and online journals throughout the world, including Anastomoo, Dead Snakes, The Camel Saloon, Counterexample Poetics, Ditch, and Indigo Rising, among many others. I also have six chapbooks of ekphrastic poetry to my credit, two of them based exclusively on the works of Dalí and Miró.
